一般的には文章のつなぎ方として、以下の3種類が存在する。
S + V ~, and V ~. （動詞をandでつなぐ）
S + V ~, and Ving ~. （現在分詞）
S + V ~; s + V ~. （; 前後の文に繋がりが深い場合）
So（接続詞）は2つの文をつなぐことができる。
しかしながらthus therefore, hence…は副詞であるため文をつなぐことはできない。
・correct: He is not satisfied. Thus, we must prepare a new proposal.
・correct: He is not satisfied; thus, we must prepare a new proposal.
・correct: He is not satisfied, and(,) thus(,) we must prepare a new proposal. （”, and thus,”と”;” は一緒）
・wrong: He is not satisfied with it, thus we must prepare a new proposal.
Independent clauseをつなぐことはできない

independent clauseは意味が完結している。一方、dependent clauseは、他の文（webster が電車に乗った後に何をしたか）がなければ意味をなさない。
